- Websites -

Once you have your website domain name for your personal website, your blog, your online shop, or your business you need to have a company host your website for you so that people can access it via their browser on the internet. It is like renting a room or a house depending on how big your website is and how much space you need. Instead of renting a physical space you are renting space on a computer server. Different companies provide different hosting options. Most hosting companies include hosting of your e-mail addresses.

All the files which make up your website are stored on the hosting server and whoever is looking after your website is able to access these files to make changes.

Braving Technology offers affordable website hosting for websites that they create. You can find more information by clicking here

Login or Register
- Websites -

If you want to buy something online or if you want access to a particular area of a website that is not publically available, you will be asked to Login or Register. You need to provide a valid e-mail address, a user name which may or may not be your e-mail address and a password. Once you have done that you will be sent an e-mail and you will be asked to click on a link to confirm that it is actually your e-mail address. Thereafter you can login to the site to complete your purchase or access the private area.

There is also an option if you forget your username or password to have it reset. You fill in your e-mail address and instructions on how to reset your password are e-mailed to that address.

Very often people get confused between Subscribing and Registering on a website. The difference is that you Subscribe to a blog post or newsletter or other type of communication that the website will send you at different times. You only need to provide your name and an e-mail address to do so. You can also unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link or by sending an e-mail to the website administrator.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation.  An example of a Search Engine is Google. It is a very powerful website which has the capability to "crawl' websites and pick out words, phrases, images about a particular topic. When you are looking for something on the internet and you search Google, this is how Google knows where to find the information for you.

The whole point of having a website is to have people reading, listening or watching the content that is there. To help Google and other Search Engines find your content you need to optimise your website by using keywords and phrases which are relevant to your business or blog. In addition whoever develops your website needs to make sure there is the necessary coding on the website to improve the searchability.

SPAM
- E-mails and SMS -

We are always trying to find a way to promote our products and services quickly, cheaply and easily. Instant messaging (SMS, Whatsapp etc) and E-mailing are great ways to do this. But not everyone wants to hear from us. When we send unsolicited communication we are SPAMMING and this is a very big no no and is illegal in some countries.

You need to ensure that anyone who is on your list has opted in and agreed to receive information from you.

- Databases -

SQL is a special programming language. In context if you are using Wordpress or Joomla your site is what is called a database driven site. When you click on a link (url) your website goes and finds all the information related to that article in one or more of the tables and produces the page that you see.
