I started writing this series when I signed up to do a 30 Day Blog Challenge and this is my post for Day 14. Each day we are given tips about a different aspect to help us improve our writing and blogging skills. The challenge for today is about the importance of Grammar and Spelling.
Have you ever sat in a conference or workshop and watched a long, dull presentation that is filled with spelling errors? Public speaking is one of the hardest things in the world to do and few people get it right. A good presentation takes hours of preparation. Finding the right keywords, phrases or illustrations to illustrate your topic is not easy. Your audience wants to listen to you, not get distracted by reams of mis-spelled words and figures on a screen.
At some point in our business lives we all have to do a presentation.
Recently I attended a free half-day workshop on SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) because I am always keen to learn more about technology which changes at the speed of light. Before you immediately think “geek speak” and click away please read a bit further.
The delegates were small business owners and 37 were women and only 3 were men. We were all there to learn how to improve our websites so that Google would put us on page 1 when anyone searched for the types of products and services that we offer.
The speaker was knowledgeable and entertaining and I picked up a number of tips that I am going to use. As a supplier of tech services I always learn from the other delegates too.
An enormous amount of information is shared at events like these and can be overwhelming. It is tempting to buy into the hype and open your wallet and imagine yourself on page 1 of Google Search next week.
To understand my audience better I also use Google Analytics which provides amazing information on who visits your website, how long they spend there, how many pages they visit, how old they are, where they live and much more. But that is a post for another day.
However, sometimes you want more direct feedback from your visitors or your fans on Facebook or Twitter etc. Why not create a free survey using Google Forms?
Perhaps you are running a workshop or conference and you want delegates to be able to register online. It removes a whole layer of paperwork and streamlines the process beautifully. No more trying to decipher hand written names and e-mails. You can embed the form into your website, e-mail it as part of a newsletter or share it on your Social Media.
When you are communicating with your audience via e-mail newsletters it can be extremely difficult to know if your effort is worth it.
It is easy to get despondent when people don’t comment on your blogs or actively engage with you. Why are they unsubscribing? Rejection is never nice.
So how do you know if you are on the right track with your e-mail marketing strategy?

Yesterday we talked about the benefits of using Google Drive to store all your documents, files, photos etc in the cloud.
Today we are going to talk about creating documents and spreadsheets using Google Docs and Google Sheets.
If you have a business you have probably used Microsoft Word and EXCEL to write letters, prepare quotations, do budgets etc. For many people the cost of buying Microsoft Office licences has got very expensive. Another disadvantage is that only one person can work on the document at a time and you can end up with multiple version numbers as the document goes backwards and forwards between collaborators.

This post is about only 1 Google application because it is probably the most important one for keeping all your files, documents, photos, spreadsheets in one place yet accessible wherever you have access to the internet.

Google Drive is a file storage system that is located in the cloud. This means that Google has hundreds of thousands of computers, located on server farms, with specialised, internet software which stores data from millions of individuals and businesses all over the world in a secure environment.

I am a Google fan without a doubt. I use GMail, Calendars, Tasks, Drive, Hangouts, Forms, Docs, Spreadsheets and Presentatiions
Over the next few days I will go through 2 of these at a time to tell you why I think they are essential productivity tools and will help you with taking your Business Digital!

Planning is the corner stone to any successful business and taking all areas of your business digital requires careful planning.
Don’t be tempted to go out and buy expensive computers, printers, tablets, phones or sign up for website hosting and website packages until you have spent a great deal of time thinking about what you need, doing the research and coming up with a budget and a timeline. It is so easy to get caught up in the excitement and get overwhelmed by all the advice that you leap in and fall flat on your face.
